Traveling as a Lifelong Learner

About Me

My name is Sonia and I didn’t quit my job to travel the world. In fact, I work full-time in what I believe to be the most rewarding field, education. I teach 5-year-old students at a Primary Years Programme (PYP) school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, everyday soaking in what it means to be a life-long learner. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned from working with kids, it’s that lifelong learning itself is a hands-on experience.

I started my career studying abroad and teaching internationally in two of my favorite countries, New Zealand and South Korea. From there, I developed my understanding of international mindedness as well as global education. I returned to Boston for two years not to stop traveling, but rather to build a life that incorporated every part of who I am; the New Englander, the Educator, and the Traveller. As much as home is still a part of me, I’ve come to realize home is not a place, but a feeling- that’s how I found myself moving back overseas two years ago. Im glad you’re here to join in my adventures where I’m working and living in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, but journeying across Africa and to other incredible destinations.

This blog is a collection of stories and cultural realizations. It will continue to grow as I connect this new chapter in my life as a traveller to understandings from past endeavors.
